The 5,000th heavy vehicle permit application has been submitted to the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR ) customer portal.

Sal Petroccitto, the CEO of NHVR, says the customer portal has become the permit application customer platform of choice since its release.

“In just under three months the portal has become the preferred option for 95 per cent of all NHVR heavy vehicle permit applications,” Mr Petroccitto said.

“From the beginning of this project, we have worked with the heavy vehicle industry and associations, state and local government and other stakeholders to make sure we designed a system that would meet the needs of this sector.

“As the number of applications via the portal grows, we are seeing benefits flow back to the heavy vehicle industry in terms of time saved, a more reliable application process and better transparency for operators to track their permits.”

Mr Petroccitto said the portal currently processes all classes of access permit applications handled by the NHVR, including Performance Based Standards (35 per cent of all applications), Oversize and Over Mass (16 per cent), Special Purpose Vehicle (13 per cent), agricultural vehicles (2 per cent), road trains (4 per cent) and B-doubles (11 per cent).

“Popular features include a vehicle builder for saving common configurations, an interactive route planner, a case tracker for improved visibility of an application’s progress and a secure online payment environment.”

Nick Simpson, heavy haulage operations controller at L Arthur Pty Ltd said the portal was a one stop shop where “we can now track our permits from start to finish which is saving our business valuable time and money.

“The NHVR has a fantastic team of people, who are always willing to help our business get the job done.’’

The next service to come online will be the Road Manager Portal, which is on track to be piloted next month. It will provide a secure online environment for jurisdictions and local government to manage access consent requests.

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator is Australia’s independent regulator for all vehicles over 4.5t gross vehicle mass.

It administers one set of laws for heavy vehicles to deliver a comprehensive range of services under one regulator.
