Heath Mason to take reins at fullback

Thirlmere Tahmoor Roosters junior Heath Mason has been named as fullback in the Wests Tigers team to face Manly at Brookvale this Friday.

Mason, who has been playing in the halves, will take the place of Jahream Bula, who suffered an injury late in the 16-12 loss to Canberra at Campbelltown last Friday night.

It will be interesting to see how much Mason puts his electric pace to use against the Sea Eagles.

He will certainly be in a mood to celebrate after extending his club contract for another season last week.

Mason, who attended rugby league school St Greg’s at Campbelltown, was obviously pleased to stay with Wests Tigers.

“I love this club and am so happy to be here for another year,” he said.

Wests Tigers head coach Benji Marshall has named Latu Fainu to start the game in the number 7 jumper, while Jarome Luai will be in the five-eighth position.

Also named to start for the first since joining the club was Jack Bird, who takes the place of Alex Seyfarth, who’s now on the interchange bench.

With Manly also in all sorts and desperate for victory, it will be a tough assignment for the Tigers to bust their five match losing streak away from home.

But they will take a lot of confidence from a much improved performance against the Raiders, especially in the second half.

Raiders scored all their points in the first 40 minutes, while the Tigers won the second half 12-0, and missed at least two golden opportunities to win the game.

Friday’s match at Brookvale will kick off from 6pm.
