An integrated community health centre will be established in the growth community of Oran Park.
South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) has a location in Oran Park Drive to establish the Oran Park Integrated Primary Care Centre
Health Minister Jillian Skinner and Member for Camden Chris Patterson announced details yesterday.
“Integrated community health centres recognise that not everyone needs care in an acute hospital setting,” Mrs Skinner said.
“We have listened to the Local Health Districts, which have identified areas experiencing population growth and an increased demand for allied health services – and Oran Park is one such community.
“We will establish integrated health centres in these growing communities and encourage integration with a range of other service providers, including general practitioners or non-government organisations. The benefits to patients of seamless, integrated care are enormous.”
The Oran Park centre will be a purpose-built primary health care centre adjacent to a large retail complex.
South Western Sydney Local Health District has consulted widely about its establishment, including with Camden Council, the University of Western Sydney, South Western Sydney Medicare Local (SWSML), Oran Park Town Partnership Committee and the Oran Park Town Community Reference Group.
“Integrated community care centres have an important role to play in keeping people well and out of hospital,” Mrs Skinner said.
“The Local Health District has a well advanced plan for the centre to deliver mainstream general practice care as well as chronic disease management, preventative health and hospital avoidance initiatives.
The planned facility will include GP consultation rooms, a designated large treatment room for primary care nursing, a physiotherapy space, pathology service and SWSLHD Community Health Services including child and family clinics, parenting groups, speech therapy, psychology and community nursing procedural clinics.
Mr Patterson said the Oran Park Integrated Primary Care Centre would complement Camden Hospital and Campbelltown Hospital.
“Oran Park is located in one of the growth corridors of our city which is why we must plan and provide for the future health needs of our community,” Mr Patterson said.
