Headspace would be established in Edmondson Park by an Albanese Labor Government, says Anne Stanley, the federal member for Werriwa.

It would mean young people in Edmondson Park and surrounds will finally have a headspace delivering early intervention mental health services close to where they live.

“We know that young people have been acutely affected by the pandemic,’’ says Ms Stanley, pictured.

“My community based in South West Sydney felt some of the harshest lockdowns last year, which has challenged the mental health of our young people.

“Now is more important than ever to support our young people with a headspace service,” Ms Stanley said.

“A headspace at Edmondson Park will provide more opportunities for our young people to get the mental health support they need close to home.

“Edmondson Park is a new town centre which is well serviced by public transport and has plenty of parking.

“This announcement builds on Labor’s commitment to deliver $440 million to schools for better ventilation, building upgrades, and mental health support,” Ms Stanley said.

“This will mean more school counsellors and psychologists, and extra funding for camps, excursions, as well as sporting and social activities that improve kids’ wellbeing.”

Grants of between $10,000 and $100,000 are available to individuals, community groups and organisations in South Western Sydney for activities to support mental health recovery, following the combined impacts of the pandemic, floods and fire on the mental health and wellbeing of our region.

A survey in January provided South Western Sydney Primary Health Network (SWSPHN) with an insight into the impact Covid-19 has had on the mental health of our region’s residents.

SWSPHN has initiated the mental health recovery grants in response to the survey’s findings. The grants will fund activities across the region to support recovery and resilience, and promote good mental health and wellbeing.

Applications close on Wednesday, May 4.
