Harlequins had another good weekend on the field with the ladies travelling to Parramatta and defeating the Two blues 19-0, while at home the men’s first grade have gone to the top of the ladder after their 48-38 win over the reigning premiers Shoalhaven.
Campbelltown started strongly and looked fully in control after they had scored to lead 5-0 early in the round seven game.
However a lapse in concentration allowed Shoalhaven to hit back soon after to take the lead 7-5.
This trend of Harlequins scoring and allowing Shoalies to hit back continued throughout the first half, with the lead changing four times in the first half.
Harlequins went to the break leading 29-19 despite dominating territory throughout the half.
The second half was a cracker.
Campbelltown started slowly, leaving the door open for a determined Shoalhaven side who scored twice to lead 31-29 with 20 minutes to go.
Campbelltown realised that they would have to play rugby to win and they then ran in three late tries.
Big centre Ben Faavae put on another power effort to run in another 20 metre converted try for Campbelltown to retake the lead 36-31.
Speedy left winger Evan Abdilla put on a scintillating run down the clubhouse side of the ground to set up the next try for August Tuala.
Tuala converted and the Quinnies lead was out to 12.
Five minutes from the end Semi Valemei scored the final try for the home side, taking the margin to 17 at 48-31.
Shoalhaven pulled one back in the dying minutes of the match, but the victory and the competition lead belonged to the home side with a final score of 48-38.
In Parramatta, the “Harlequeens” had their third win of the season over a Shute shield club, downing Parramatta 19-0.
The margin did not reflect the dominance of the Harlequins girls who led from start to finish.
The “Harlequeens” travel to Manly next week to take on another heavy weight.
After two very promising wins to start the season the Harlequins Under 18s side travelled to Randwick to take on the competition favorites.
In a frustrating game, they went down 31-7. This game was a learning experience for the boys who simply gave away too much cheap possession to a very good Randwick side. The boys will bounce back.
