MP Greg Warren, front left, says local seniors who volunteer their time deserve recognition.

Campbelltown MP Greg Warren has issued a clarion call for a big effort to ensure the massive contribution of seniors in the Macarthur region doesn’t go unnoticed.

Mr Warren says local seniors who volunteer their time ought to be recognised in the 2016 NSW Seniors Local Achievement Awards.

The local MP is urging locals to nominate a volunteer senior citizen for an award.

“Seniors help make our city stronger and better,” Mr Warren said.

“The NSW Seniors Local Achievement Awards are an opportunity to thank a special senior for everything they do in the community.

“We are calling on people to nominate seniors who are making a real difference to the lives of those around them.”

The Campbelltown MP said seniors are valued and respected members of our community.

The 2016 NSW Seniors Local Achievement Awards will celebrate seniors’ achievements in a range of categories, including business, environment, science, agriculture, health and wellbeing, learning and community service.

Nominations for the 2016 NSW Seniors Local Achievement Awards opened on March 8. They will close on Friday, March 25.

They will be presented as part of the 10-day long NSW Seniors Festival during April 1-10.

The seniors festival used to be known as NSW seniors week.

NSW Seniors Festival celebrates and acknowledges the important role that seniors play in our community.

It is the largest festival for seniors in the Southern Hemisphere.

An estimated 300,000 seniors are expected to attend more than 1,000 free and discounted events throughout the state during the festival.
