Up they go: MPs Greg Warren, left, and Anoulack Chanthivong at the Filipino Independence flag raising ceremony in Campbelltown last Saturday morning.

I don’t know how they decide these things but local MPs Greg Warren and Anoulack Chanthivong were called upon to raise the NSW flag and the Aboriginal flag respectively last Saturday morning.

It was all part of the annual Filipino independence day flag raising ceremony and lunch.

Either way, our MPs performed their duty with noticeable pride and gusto in front of the members of the local Filipino community who were present for the occasion.

♦ Speaking of MPs, former Campbelltown chamber of commerce chief Geoff Berry wants Greg Warren to push for the art gallery of NSW to put out some of the massive number of artworks – currently in storage – for exhibitions.

Geoff, who turns 85 soon, says it’s a disgrace 90 percent of the gallery’s artworks are in storage and wants our local MP to shake things up a bit.

“I for one would like to see some of this art here in our art gallery before I die,’’ Geoff told the Voice yesterday.

♦ Councillor Warren Morrison represented the Mayor of Campbelltown at the annual Coonamble Rodeo and Camp Draft.

Why? Because Coonamble is Campbelltown’s regional NSW buddy, a bit like a sister city relationship.

Councillor Morrison told the council on his return that he had a wonderful weekend and the Rodeo and Camp Draft was a fantastic event – at least once he got the hang of what it was all about.

Councillor Morrison said that Coonamble sincerely thanked Campbelltown for their sponsorship of the event.

Another councillor, Ben Moroney, represented the Mayor at the recent Iftar Dinner held at the local Al-Faisal College.

This dinner celebrates the end of fasting and looking forward to the future and Councillor Moroney said the service was lovely, food excellent and community sentiment was wonderful.

♦ Multicultural Aged Care Inc (MAC) has recently become a registered NDIS provider in an effort to fill the gap being left by the lack of culturally tailored service provisions for local multicultural people with a disability.

Tomorrow, Thursday, June 22 at Campsie, MAC will officially unveil a new, all inclusive brand to embrace their new client base.

MAC has been servicing aged care clients in Inner West, South West and South East Sydney for over two decades.

♦ A year 5 student at Kentlyn Public is going to be in trouble because we have their English homework and it’s due this Friday, June 23.

The sheet containing the homework was on the footpath outside the school.

Part of the homework includes the correct use of apostrophes, so if your mum’s reading this, kid, here’s some answers:

Who’s he trying to fool? It’s not me!

The teacher’s desk is bigger than mine.

Don’t get too close to the river’s edge

Yes, we know our apostrophes, for what it’s worth.

♦ And while on schools, Sarah Redfern High School oval will be the venue for the 2017 NAIDOC In The Fields touch football competition on Wednesday, July 5.

It is a 7 a side mixed competition whose aim is to help break down barriers of engagement, says Melody Chime, the Aboriginal liaison officer of the Macquarie Fields Police Local Area Command.

Melody says this is a free event and all are welcome, including local business that may want to back it with sponsorship.

If you’re interested in entering a team or a sponsorship deal contact Melody by emailing her at chim1mel@police.nsw.gov.au or call the Macquarie Fields police station on 9605 0499.
