The new member for Campbelltown doesn’t just present framed certificates to locals who have done good deeds – he makes them himself.

Greg Warren’s hands on approach is unheard of among our elected elite.

Who knows, he may be genuinely unique in literally using his hands to make the certificates of appreciation he presents to groups and individuals.

The South West Voice almost fell over with the response from our newest MP when we asked him where he takes the certificates for framing.

“I do’’, he said.

“I buy the timber frames and put the certificates together in my office,’’ Mr Warren said.

And that’s after he’s written the wording and has it printed and laminated.

“I just like to do it by myself. It’s not about saving the taxpayers a couple of dollars,’’ the Labor MP told the Voice during the official opening of his electoral office in Queen Street, Campbelltown this morning.

As part of the opening, Mr Warren presented certificates of appreciation to Campbelltown RSL and the SES.

He disclosed his hands on role in making the certificates after being complimented for the “nice touch’’ such gestures represent.

“The RSL did a tremendous job organising the 100th anniversary of Anzac Day; what a proud day that was across Campbelltown, attended by thousands of locals.

“And at the most recent storms our SES people were there to help residents who were affected.

“I think SES received more than 140 calls for help in the Campbelltown area.’’

Mr Warren was elected to parliament on March 28 after a landslide win over Liberal MP Bryan Doyle.

He was one of two Labor candidates to win; the other was Campbelltown councillor Anoulack Chanthivong, who attended this morning’s opening.

Also there among friends and supporters were marketing guru Steve Wisbey representing Disability Macarthur, Werriwa MP Laurie Ferguson and Councillor Darcy Lound representing the Mayor of Campbelltown, Paul Lake.
