Guzman y Gomez will need to sell lot of burritos to beat El Jannah

Just a few weeks ago, on May 24 to be exact, popular chicken franchise El Jannah opened a new outlet in the northern car park of Minto Mall.

On Wednesday, July 2, it will be the turn of another fast food chain, Guzman y Gomez, to open a new franchise, also in Minto, directly across from the Mall.

Behind this outlet are first-time Guzman y Gomez franchisees Jaymes Holden and Jess Carter (pictured above).

To celebrate the opening, they will be launching with $5 Brekkie Burritos and Bowls from 7am to 10.30am, and then $5 Burritos and Bowls until 10pm.

But will these opening day specials be enough to match the record breaking effort of El Jannah back on May 24, who offered a $5 meal deal all day? Time will tell.

The South West Voice has been told that more than 40,000 people queued up for the opening El Jannah specials, a record number for the company.

Indeed, it has been suggested every person who calls Minto home dropped in to pick up a $5 meal.

Some things open, while others close, because such is life. The Bank of Queensland branch in the main street of Campbelltown, Queen Street, the last bank still operating in the heart of the town, has announced that it will also be closing down.

Close of business on Wednesday, September 3 will be the last time the branch will do banking business in Queen Street.

Customers received letters last week informing them of the “difficult decision’’ to permanently close this branch.

They were also told accounts would be managed by BOQ Parramatta from the next day on September 4.

And until the closure the branch will operate between 10am and 2pm.

We wish John Horosko, a good man who was the franchisee of the branch for more than a decade, all the best for the future.

Did you know that there are 1,224 bus stop throughout the Campbelltown local government area.

But as the council points out as part of a new campaign, just 252 of them provide a shelter for people waiting for the bus.

Council is allocating part of its funds towards building more and more bus shelters every year, and is also asking for the State Government to help out with grant money.

In another blow to the cash economy, the Campbelltown Library Service is no longer able to accept donations in cash.

Council’s knowledge foundation policy, which outlines the conditions under which a member of the public can make a tax-free donation to the Campbelltown Library Service, has now been amended to reflect the no-cash approach.

We couldn’t resist taking a photo of this lonely women’s shoe, laying outside one of the wedding reception areas at Ottimo House in Denham Court.

Now we’re wondering if there are any Cinderellas out there who recently attended a wedding and left one of their shoes behind.
