Guided Indigenous Walking Tours are the best way to see the beautiful scenery of Dharawal National Park.
The guided walks start up again in February, and are held at 9am and 11.30am on the second Saturday of every month until November, providing an up-close look at the unique flora and fauna within our local national park, from a Koori perspective.
The tours are led by National Parks Aboriginal Discovery Rangers, who share personal insights as they take participants on a cultural journey.
The 9am walk travels along the O’Hares Creek Lookout (pictured above) track, and is a grade 1, 2.8km return walk. It is appropriate for participants of all abilities and ages, including children in prams, and people using wheelchairs and mobility scooters.
The 11.30am walk takes the more challenging, grade 3 track to view Minerva Pool, pictured below.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said locals were fortunate to have easy access to the walking and bike tracks, waterfalls and swimming holes, scenic lookouts and flora and fauna within the Dharawal National Park.
[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“The Guided Indigenous Walking Tours give participants the opportunity to learn more about the national park from experienced and passionate guides, and I’m pleased this year’s program provides even more tours for people with additional mobility needs,” he said.[/social_quote]
Cr Brticevic said the series of Sensory Walks, held for the first time during the school holidays this summer, had also been popular with both locals and visitors alike, with all walks fully booked, and participants enjoying the rare experience of exploring the park using all five senses.
“Plans are under way for another series of Sensory Walks to be held during the April school holidays, so I would encourage those interested to visit council’s website in the coming weeks for dates and times,” he said.
The guided walking tours take 90 minutes and tickets are $10 per person. Bookings are essential and places are strictly limited. Wear comfortable walking shoes and a hat, and bring a bottle of water and sunscreen.
