Camden Council has awarded the construction tender for the upgrade to the Camden Valley Way – Grahams Hill Road and Richardson Road intersection at Narellan.

The $3.57 million project is part of the Camden to Narellan corridor upgrade, which is part of the Australian and NSW Government’s $200 million Local Roads Package.

Council endorsed the $3.06 million construction contract to widen and realign the intersection at last week’s meeting.

“This project will significantly improve the safety of motorists and reduce the travel times along Camden Valley Way, which is a major thoroughfare in our area,” says Mayor Lara Symkowiak.

“I look forward to the upgrade of this intersection to reduce the potential for accidents in the busy commercial centre.

“We welcome the Federal and State Government investing in our road network to improve local transport connections for communities and support the population growth,” she said.

The upgrade will include:

  • widening of Grahams Hill Road and Richardson Road to allow for right turn lanes into Camden Valley Way;
  • widening of Camden Valley Way;
  • lengthening the existing right turn lanes from Camden Valley Way into Richardson Road and Grahams Hill Road;
  • moving the powerlines above the intersection to underground;
  • installation of new lights to include designated turning arrows;
  • landscaping and replacement of trees.

Camden Council also adopted the Kirkham Park Masterplan, which sets out the future for the site and the location of sports facilities, parking and internal roads.

Public submissions received during the exhibition of the draft masterplan were considered as part of the report to council last week.

“This plan has been compiled in consultation with the community and will guide any future decisions about the park,” Cr Symkowiak said afterwards.

“Kirkham Park is a valuable recreational facility and community asset that will be expanded and upgraded through the implementation of this plan.’’

The park includes a BMX track, skate park, cricket and rugby league areas.

The netball association was transferred to the new purpose built facility at the Narellan Sports Hub last year.

The complete master plan includes a new BMX track and jump park facilities, synthetic cricket pitch, three new sports fields and an upgrade of the existing skate park.

A new rugby league grandstand with amenities and change room is also part of the Kirkham master plan, plus a new amenities building and cycle paths.
