Campbelltown Meals on Wheels will use the money from a community grant to provide GPS navigation units to its volunteers.

This will ensure volunteers can more effectively organise their delivery runs, increasing their capacity to service more clients.

Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver meals, library books and a shopping service, as well as offering daily social interaction.

That is why the $3,000 Transurban community grant will be used to make the job of volunteers a little easier, says Gary West, president of the Campbelltown Meals On Wheels management committee.

“We would like to thank Transurban for their contribution of $3,000 towards our GPS navigation units to assist our volunteers,’’ he said.

“This grant will make a difference in our community by allowing us to continue in our work and continue to strive to expand our programs.

“In order to meet our mission and provide services in our community, we rely on the fundraising and the generosity of individuals and businesses for support,” Mr West said.

Transurban’s general manager for strategy, Michele Huey, and the State Member for Campbelltown, Greg Warren, presented the money to Mr West.

“Meals on Wheels is one of many organisations here in Campbelltown doing great work to support some of the most vulnerable people in our community, and with this grant they’ll be able to continue that great work into the future,” Mr Warren said.

Ms Huey said Transurban’s vision was to strengthen communities through transport.

“We believe it’s important to support the communities in and around our roads,’’ she said.

“Campbelltown Meals on Wheels is an important service and we are proud to support them,” Ms Huey said.

“We are very proud of our community grants program, which has provided $180,000 to deserving not-for-profit organisations across Australia this year.”

Transurban is an Australian-owned motorway operator, whose Sydney assets include Westlink M7 and M5 South West Motorways with consortium partners.

Offered twice-yearly, the next round of the community grants program opens this month. More information about the program is available on the Transurban website here.
