governorgeneralLiverpool mayor Ned Mannoun and Mike Meyer, chairperson of the Liverpool Community Kitchen and Hub, will welcome the Governor-General, Sir Peter Cosgrove and  Lady Cosgrove, when they visit the Hub next Tuesday,  October 14 as part of Anti-Poverty Week.

“It is an honour and a great pleasure to be welcoming the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove to see the fantastic work being done by the Liverpool Community Kitchen and Hub to assist those in our community experiencing social and financial disadvantage,” Mr Mannoun said.

They will be at the hub from 11.45am and until 1pm.

“We are particularly delighted that Sir Peter and Lady Cosgrove will join staff to help serve the lunch provided daily to around 140 clients through this initiative.’’

Established in 2011, the Liverpool Community Kitchen and Hub provides a range of services including breakfast, a hot midday meal, social, recreational and community building activities, advocacy and support, skill development opportunities and more.

“Council is proud to have supported this important initiative since its inception. As with many successful community programs, this one is a partnership with each of the partners contributing in various ways including providing the venue, food supplies, individual support, counselling and case management,’’ the mayor said.

“In August of this year, all groups committed to continuing the partnership for another two years – a great development for our community.

“I look forward to showing Sir Peter and Lady Cosgrove the great work being done here to help disadvantaged residents in Liverpool and introducing them to the talented and hard-working people who make it happen every day.”

The Liverpool Community Kitchen and Hub, which is located at 28 Pirie Street, is run by Inspire Community Services. The partner groups involved in the Liverpool Community Kitchen and Hub include Liverpool City Council, Anglicare Liverpool, Inspire Community Services, Cabramatta Community Services, Mission Australia, Parramatta Mission and community representatives.
