The Campbelltown Camden Ghosts have taken another step towards winning their first ever premiership after a sensational victory over Mosman at Allan Border Oval yesterday.
Set a mammoth 430 run target, the Ghosts top order smashed a staggering 55 boundaries and nine sixes on the way to 6 for 430 and victory.
They needed just 81 overs to reach the target, scoring more than five runs an over in what was the highest successful chase in the club’s history.
It was a great send off for English import Ollie Pope, who was playing his last match wearing a Ghosts cap.
The 20 year old touted as the next England Test wicketkeeper batsman, chipped in with 67 runs of his own to help the Ghosts to victory and the six premiership points.
But it was opener Mitchell Carruthers who was the rock behind such a brilliant win by the Ghosts.
He smashed 127 off just 139 balls in an innings which included 14 boundaries and four sixes.
Aaron Yabsley, his opening partner, made a useful 43, while first drop Phil Wells added a further 54 as the Ghosts methodically went about overhauling a big total.
Jordan Browne’s undefeated 76 completed the job for the boys from Macarthur, who are leading the competition with one match left to play in the home and away season.
The Ghosts are first on the ladder with 58 points, the same as second placed Parramatta.
Sydney is running third (52), Sydney University fourth (50) with Sutherland and Gordon making up the top six.
This coming Saturday, the Ghosts will host Sydney University at Raby Sports Complex in a limited overs clash that could decide the minor premiers and the make up of the top six.
Play will start from 10am.
There will be some quality cricket on offer, and hopefully a lot of local fans will go along to support the local boys in their quest to become the first Ghosts team ever to win a Sydney grade cricket premiership.
