Less than 24 hours ago an appeal was launched to raise funds for the young Tahmoor mother who was critically injured when a tree fell on the car she was travelling at Menangle Road.
The organiser of the gofundme appeal, Amy Wallace, who was hoping to raise around $1000, has been astounded by the generosity of the community, who have pledged almost $10,000.
“It’s just incredible, but I know how tight knit our community is,’’ she told the South West Voice in Macarthur earlier today.
Ms Wallace, the owner of IconiX Salons in Thirlmere and Bargo, has been the boss of Rebekah, a 22 year old makeup artist, for the past nine months.
She says she discussed the appeal with Rebekah’s family, who were supportive but wanted to maintain anonymity, which is why Rebeka’s surname has not been included in this story.
“Rebekah is really beautiful person, she never seeks attention for herself,’’ Ms Wallace said.
The mother of four year old Margo, Rebekah was rushed to Liverpool Hospital following the freak accident which happened while she and boyfriend Kurtis were driving along Menangle Road near Glen Alpine on November 26.
A large tree crashed onto their car resulting in Rebekah suffering serious head and spinal injuries.
Kurtis got her out of the car and called for help.
After the ambulance and other emergency service personnel arrived, Rebekah was placed into an induced coma on the side of the road.
At Liverpool Hospital she was taken straight into surgery to relieve bleeding on the brain. After that she remained in an induced coma.
Last Sunday (November 28) she went back into surgery where they had to remove part of her skull to relieve pressure on her brain and have more surgery.
“At this stage she remains stable but still in an induced coma,’’ writes Ms Wallace on the gofundme page for Rebekah.
“While it’s wonderful to see the generosity of local people, what we all want is to see Rebekah get well,’’ Ms Wallace told the Voice.
