Not one but two Cannes favourites are coming to South West Sydney in September and October.

The films are Oscar winning director Sofia Coppola’s seductive thriller The Beguiled and Taylor Sheridan’s cold case thriller Wind River.

Both will be screened at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre (CPAC) as part of the Sydney Film Festival monthly screenings.

The Beguiled will screen on Friday, September 8, while Wind River will be shown at CPAC on Saturday, October 7.

But wait, there’s more.

For a  multisensory experience, both screenings will be paired with meals prepared by CPAC’s award winning head chef Federico Rekowski.

Winner of best director at Cannes, The Beguiled features a star studded cast including Australia’s Nicole Kidman (Moulin Rouge) alongside Colin Farrell (Total Recall), Kirsten Dunst (Spider-Man films) and Elle Fanning (Maleficent).

The film follows a Southern girls’ boarding school during the Civil War, where the prim and proper environment is taken over with sexual tension and rivalries when an injured enemy soldier is discovered and taken in.

The festival’s second screening at Casula, Wind River, stars Jeremy Renner (The Avengers) and Elizabeth Olsen (Avengers: Age of Ultron).

The film was winner of best director un certain regard at Cannes and follows an FBI rookie and park ranger who team up to investigate the violent death of a young Native American woman.

“The Beguiled is a perfect example of Coppola’s distinctive sensual style, filled with eerie tension along with flashes of mischievous humour, and Wind River’s mix of intricate characters, potent mystery and punchy action makes for a fantastic feature debut from Sheridan,” says Sydney Film Festival director Nashen Moodley.

CPAC director Craig Donarski said that Federico Rekowski has prepared mouth watering feasts to pair with the films.

“Sumptuous chicken with charred corn and fennel slaw will draw deeply from the Southern world of The Beguiled, and eco-farmed smoked pork belly with pickled apples, charred vegetables and pork salt will perfectly match the Wyoming wild of Wind River,” Donarski said.

“We are very excited for our audiences to experience such world class films alongside Federico’s incredible dishes,” he said.
