A free careers night for students in Years 9 to 12 and VETsteddFOOD, a different take on vocational training, are coming to Macarthur this month, courtesy of MWLP.

Campbelltown Performing Arts High School will be the venue for the careers night on Monday, May 20, 5.30pm to 8pm.

Students will explore career options, identify strengths and learn how to make the best choices. They will also discover where the jobs are and how parents can help.

Experts will talk about pathways to VET in schools, apprenticeships, traineeships, university, training and jobs.

Parents, carers and students from all schools are welcome to the night, which is sponsored by My Gateway and The Mac Credit Union. Register here: https://careers-for-youth-information-night.eventbrite.com.au

MWLP has joined forces with Camden Council for the second event on the May schedule, VETsteddFOOD.

Camden Civic Centre will be the venue for VETsteddFOOD on Thursday, May 30 and Friday, May 31, 10.30am to 1.30pm.

This special event will showcase entertainment and hospitality students from local high schools, who will perform and cook a two-course meal for seniors for $5.

Construction students will build sets, business services, retail and events students will sell tickets and assist with the organisation of the event and human services students will escort elderly clients on the day.

This unique event aims to bring together seniors for a wonderful morning of entertainment, followed by a delicious lunch and to showcase the variety of vocational courses and pathways available to students while they are still at school.

MWLP chief executive officer David Williams says he is pleased the organisation is able to host this event in Camden, but hopes to take it to other areas in the future.

“It is exciting for MWLP to be involved in dynamic new strategies like VETsteddFOOD,’’ he said.

“Last year we initiated Long Lunches in Schools where hospitality students prepped, cooked and served three course meals to parents, educators and VIPs.

“So far this year we have held events at Thomas Reddall High School and John Therry Catholic High School and have more planned.’’

Tickets to VETsteddFOOD must be purchased prior to the event and seats are filling up fast. If you, or someone you know, would like to purchase tickets please call Nicole Chesworth on 4625 1863.
