A former police officer has appeared in court over the sexual assault of a 13 year old child six years ago.
The 48-year-old man was arrested at Ruse yesterday and taken to Campbelltown Police Station.
He was charged with two counts of sexual intercourse with a person aged between 10 and 14, and using a carriage service to send indecent material to a person under the age of 16.
The accused was a senior constable at the time of the alleged incident.
Investigators from the Professional Standards Command launched an investigation following a report that a 13-year-old child had allegedly been sexually assaulted by a man in South Western Sydney in 2017.
The investigations by officers from the State Crime Command’s Child Exploitation Internet Unit Strike Force Trawler led to yesterday’s arrest at Ruse.
The man, who is no longer employed by the NSW Police Force, was refused bail to appear in Campbelltown Local Court yesterday.

In a separate incident, a man has been charged over two armed robberies in the Liverpool area.
Just after 7.30amon Wednesday, police were called to a supermarket in Miller following reports of an armed robbery.
Officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command were told a man had allegedly threatened an employee with a knife and demanded money, before stealing cash and leaving on a pushbike.
The employee was not injured.
A crime scene was established and police commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Following inquiries by the Liverpool Proactive Crime Team, yesterday morning (Thursday), police were patrolling the Miller area stopped a 29-year-old man riding a pushbike.
After speaking with the man, he was arrested and taken to Liverpool Police Station.
The man was charged with robbery while armed with an offensive weapon at Miller on May 31, the robbery of a Liverpool service station a day earlier, goods in custody suspected of being stolen, and breach of bail.
The man was refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court today (Friday).
