Former Macarthur Football Association chief Rob Laws hasn’t actually hung up his administrative boots just yet.

In fact at the recent annual general meeting of Football NSW Laws was one of three new directors elected to the board.

And who knows, Laws may even become chairman of the board when an election is held for that position on Thursday, March 31.

We’d certainly vote for him, so go Rob.

♦ In one of the least surprising political results, Anne Stanley has been preselected to represent Labor in the seat of Werriwa at this year’s Federal election.

Ms Stanley, a Liverpool councillor for the past eight years, will fill the shoes of Laurie Ferguson, who was controversially parachuted into Werriwa prior to the 2010 election.

Yes, that’s the one, where the popular local member, Chris Hayes, was shafted so the machine men of the Labor Party could do their dirty work.

Ferguson, who’s not a bad bloke, just a little prickly at times maybe, announced his retirement pretty much the minute he got reelected in 2013.

Councillor Stanley says she has been a resident in Werriwa all her life, attending local schools and working in Liverpool.

“I am humbled by the support I have received from my fellow party members,” Ms Stanley said after winning preselection.

♦ The Liberal Party have not yet selected a candidate for the seat of Werriwa, which is now a winnable one for them. Indeed some pundits – that will be me – believe that if the Libs can find a candidate with a bit of talent and charisma they will give themselves every chance of grabbing this iconic Labor seat – think Whitlam, Kerin, Latham and Hayes.

♦ The electorate office for the member for Werriwa on Oxford Road, Ingleburn is one floor up from the one for the state MP, the member for Macquarie Fields, Anoulack Chanthivong. We are not sure about upstairs but if you ever need to drop in to the State MP’s office and you’re offered a cup of coffee, say yes. They make very, very good barista quality coffee, thanks very much.

♦ There’s not many seats or tables left for the Prime Minister’s visit next Tuesday, March 29 for the combined Macarthur chambers luncheon. The most recent booking was a table for 10 from Macarthur Greeks Inc, the region’s newest community group. If you are interested in attending the luncheon at Wests Leagues to hear Malcolm Turnbull speak just visit the website of a local chamber, Ingleburn, Campbelltown, Camden or Narellan. But don’t delay or you will miss out.
