Campbelltown City Council is developing a plan of management for the Bingara Reserve grey-headed flying-fox camp, and is inviting community input to help shape the plan.
Residents can share their thoughts via a short survey which will be available on Council’s website until Tuesday, August 8.
The grey-headed flying-fox is an important pollinator, dispersing seeds for many native species, says council.
It is listed as vulnerable to extinction under State and Federal legislation.
Survey participants will have an opportunity to learn about, rank and make informed decisions about the management options available for the Bingara Reserve grey-headed flying-fox camp.
The deputy mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Meg Oates, encouraged all residents, particularly those living in close proximity to the flying-fox camp, to complete the survey and assist in the development of the plan of management.
[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“Council is keen to work with property owners and the wider community to reduce the impact of flying-foxes while ensuring the critical ecosystem functions they provide are protected,” Cr Oates said.[/social_quote]
“Community participation in this survey will help ensure an effective and responsive plan of management is developed, to guide council’s work in the future and direct resources where they are needed most.”
Survey participants will be asked to assign importance to various flying-fox management options.
The information will be used to identify the camp management options which most closely align with their point of view.
Participants will also have the opportunity to re-rank those options if they don’t agree with the results.
The survey takes five to 10 minutes to complete.
If you’d like to take part, go online here to complete the survey.
