Flood studies are an important tool for council and emergency services to plan emergency management responses and put in place any mitigation measures needed, says Campbelltown Mayor George Greiss.

Mayor Greiss is encouraging residents to have their say and provide their input into a current flood study of parts of Campbelltown.

The Southern Catchments Flood Study is looking into all or part of the suburbs of Airds, Bradbury, St Helens Park, Ambarvale and Rosemeadow, as shown in the image above.

It covers the Mansfield and Spring Creek catchments as well as several smaller waterways that drain to the Georges River, the main waterway on the eastern boundary of Campbelltown.

The study has been tasked to report on key flooding characteristics such as flood depths and speed, which will help Campbelltown Council to identify any flood management measures required in the study area as well as assisting emergency management planning and guiding future development.

“I encourage anyone interested, to view the study and provide their feedback to ensure the views and experiences of the community are captured within the final study,” Cr Greiss said.

Residents interested in viewing the study in person and speaking to a staff member or Council’s consultant can attend a consultation session to be held this Wednesday, February 1, at the Campbelltown City council staff training centre from 3:30pm to 7pm.
