A disability service group is joining forces with a local artist to create an inspirational mural at its Smeaton Grange premises.
The Flagstaff Group, a not-for-profit disability enterprise, in collaboration with Sydney artist Luke Chaplin of @tekn_projects, is set to create a vibrant mural with local youths this Wednesday.
Luke Chaplin’s distinctive style, previously showcased in murals in Ingleburn and several local public schools, serves as a lasting source of inspiration.
The collaborative project aims to harness the power of art as a means of expression for all.
Participants from Flagstaff’s Smeaton Grange NDIS Life Choices program will work alongside the artist to co-design the mural, discussing themes, ideas, and designs that hold personal significance and reflect their experiences and aspirations for the future.
“The mural painting project presents an invaluable opportunity for youths with disability to work together to create a dynamic mural representing empowerment, employment, and a reflection of themselves,’’ says the Flagstaff CEO, Rod Von Clark.
“We extend a warm invitation to local youths to join us on the day and learn from Luke, a local artist who also serves as a mentor and facilitator.
“Luke will provide step-by-step guidance to ensure everyone can fully participate.
“This Youth Week mural event offers a unique opportunity to forge new friendships and acquire new skills in an inclusive environment,’’ Mr Von Clark said.
The Flagstaff Group expanded its disability services to the Macarthur region in 2022 and welcomes enquiries from prospective participants interested in joining their school-to-work pathways program.
Through this program participants learn communication skills, job readiness, explore employment pathways and engage in practical workshops such as cooking, tradie training and garden care.
