Order of Australia: Five locals named in Queen’s Birthday honours

Dr Leanne Craze, of Glen Alpine, has been named in the Queen’s Birthday Order of Australia honours for services to people living with a mental illness.

Five south west Sydney region residents have been named in the Queen’s Birthday Order of Australia honours for 2017.

From Casula to Razorback, the entire region is represented in this year’s list of recipients.

The local recipients are:

Dr Leanne Craze, of Glen Alpine, who receives an AM for significant service to the community as an advocate for the rights of people living with mental illness;

Mr Barry McConville, of Razorback, picks up an OAM for service to the community and to education;

Mr Robert Pink, of Ingleburn has been rewarded for service to veterans and their families;

Mr Keith Robertson, of Camden South receives an honour for service to youth.

Mr Peter Pearce, of Casula, receives his Order of Australia honour for service to surf lifesaving.

Dr Leanne Craze has been a board member of the Mental Health Association NSW, 2013-2016; member of the Governing Council, 1993-1998 and 1983-1986 and chairperson of the Mental Health Services Sub-Committee, 1983-1986.

She was also a part-time member of the NSW Mental Health Review Tribunal, 1995-2016.

A director of Craze Lateral Solutions since 1991, Dr Craze’s long list of involvement also includes: researcher and policy advisor at Hepatitis Australia, 2010-2014; manager and consultant for the Family and Carer Support Program, Greater Southern Area Health Service, NSW Health, 2002-2006; member of Commonwealth Disability Standards Review Panel, 1994-1997 and manager/criminologist/senior Lecturer, Crime and Violence Prevention Unit, Australian Institute of Criminology, 1993-1994.

Razorback resident Barry McConville has been a volunteer at Wollondilly Meals on Wheels for 10 years, secretary-treasurer of Wollondilly Cancer Support Group and public officer and treasurer of Wollondilly Tourism Association since 2006.

He was a principal and teacher at NSW public schools from 1960 to 1994 and president of Australian Primary Principals Association, 1991-1992.

Robert Pink’s service includes: RSL executive committee member Ashfield sub-branch since 2011; secretary, Customs House sub-branch 1996-2009 and member 1993-2009; member since 1968; life member; 1/19th Battalion, Royal NSW Regiment Association inaugural secretary since 1998, life member and current editor of Frontline.

Keith Robertson’s service includes: NSW Army Cadet Brigade, Australian Army Cadets (AAC) lieutenant colonel and assistant commander since 2013; major, 2002-2013; captain, 1989-2001; lieutenant, 1982-1988; commanding officer, 23 Cadet Battalion, 2009-2010.

Also, member Camden sub branch RSL, life member Camden Apex Club, chair Camden and District Spastic Centre Council.

Peter Pearce has been Surf Life Saving Australia councillor and board member 2002-2006, manager, Australian team to New Zealand for Trans- Tasman Test in 1982 and recipient of 50 year long service award in 2015.
