parade2014gThe 60th annual Festival of Fisher’s Ghost will be celebrated this November and Campbelltown City Council is calling out to former Miss Spirit and Miss Princess winners to slip on their sash and join this year’s street parade.

Inspired by the famous legend of the ghost of Frederick Fisher, the festival was first held in 1956, and as part of that inaugural event, a festival queen was named.

The title and format of the event remained highly changeable until 1961 when the Miss Spirit contest was devised.

This theme ran successfully until 1993, when it evolved into the current Miss Princess Quest, creating an opportunity for younger girls to gain confidence and self esteem while improving their knowledge of Campbelltown.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Councillor Paul Lake, said that in its time, the Miss Spirit title was a prestigious award for young women in the Campbelltown area to aspire to.

“The participants were judged on deportment, local knowledge and their fundraising efforts for a chosen community group,’’ he said.

“The winner was presented with a trophy and prizes, and represented Campbelltown City at formal events and civic functions for the next year.

Former Miss Spirit and Miss Princess winners since 1956 are encouraged to contact Council’s Events Team on 4645 4515, or email events@campbelltown.nsw.gov.au, to express interest in being involved in the 60 year celebrations.
