Don your best disco shoes, lace up your roller skates, turn up the boom box and get involved in the first ever Festival of Fisher’s Ghost twilight street parade.
“Bringing back old school’’ will be theme of this year’s parade on Saturday, November 4 and which will start at the new time of 6.30pm.
In recent years the parade has kicked off in the middle of the day at 1.30pm but it has now been pushed back as part of a bid to freshen up the annual festival.
Campbelltown City Council is inviting community groups, businesses, organisations, schools and sporting clubs to enter colourful and creative floats in this year’s twilight parade and be part of the official opening of the 10 day festival, which will be celebrated during November 3-12.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said the festival program had been revamped for 2017, with the parade held in the evening for the first time, and the street fair moving to the first week of the festival, on the same day as the parade.
“The street parade is a great way to celebrate our city’s community spirit, and this year’s parade is not only going to look spectacular with a twilight backdrop, it’ll be a lot of fun,” he said.
[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“Whether participants go retro and immerse themselves in the pop culture of the 60s, 70s and 80s, have a frightfully good time with past parade themes, or highlight Campbelltown’s rich history, we’ll be stepping back in time to celebrate our past at the new-look street parade.”[/social_quote]
Applications to enter the street parade close on Wednesday, October 11.
Prize money will be up for grabs for best parade entries across a range of categories, including first and second overall, and best themed sporting team, performance group, wheels and hooves, community organisation or local club, cultural group, school, band, and youth band.
Winners will be announced online during the festival.
