Families across Campbelltown will be able to enjoy a Christmas dinner and a variety of festive foods from more than 1,000 hampers being delivered to people in need across the city.

The hampers are filled with food and essentials and will be distributed over the next few weeks by local charities and community organisations.

“Christmas is a time when everyone should be able to experience a bit of joy and comfort while sharing a meal with the family,” says council general manager Lindy Deitz.

“Over these past two years we’ve seen some people in our community experience difficulty due to the impact of Covid-19 and the lockdown restrictions.

“But we’ve also seen the generosity and empathy from many local community organisations and our staff here at council to support people through a range of measures such as these hampers,” Ms Deitz said.

The Christmas hampers are a continuation of the work done by council staff and several community organisations and charities during the lockdown period, when up to 80O OzHarvest hampers were distributed each week.

Council staff, including the rangers team, also worked with Campbelltown Police during this period to provide emergency food relief to families and close contacts of Covid-positive cases who were in isolation.

The Christmas hampers are funded from the NSW Government Covid Recovery Fund.

Camden residents who thought they may be alone on Christmas Day can think again, with Macarthur Combined Churches hosting a free lunch on December 25 at Oran Park Library for the first time.

The menu includes hams, chicken, roast potatoes and pumpkin, cauliflower and broccoli au gratin, peas and corn, gravy and assorted condiments.

Event organiser Susan Peacock said the free Christmas lunch gave people who would be lonely on a joyous day the chance to celebrate with others.

For more information on the lunch, to RSVP by Monday 20 December and book your place, contact Susan Peacock at susan.peacock2@gmail.com
