More commuters than car parking spaces means the problem at Edmondson Park station has reached crisis point, says MP Anoulack Chanthivong, left, pictured outside the station on Friday with unhappy local commuters Mr Philip Durbridge and Mr Surinder Singh.

The lack of commuter parking is not a new problem at Edmondson Park station.

It was highlighted 12 months ago, but due to the lack of action it has now got so worse commuters are risking being fined by parking where they are not supposed to.

Many frustrated commuters have turned to their local member for help.

“The situation is so dire that my office has been inundated with complaints and I expect that will only worsen as thousands of new homes are built,’’ says Anoulack Chanthivong, the State Member for Macquarie Fields.

“Commuters are at their wit’s end. It’s chaos,” he said.

“The carpark is full to capacity around 7am and commuters have taken to parking on the footpath or parking in restricted areas and risking fines.

He pointed out that the problem was going to get even worse as thousands of people continued to move into Edmondson Park – a major growth corridor that straddles Campbelltown, Liverpool and Camden.

On top of that the State Government’s precinct plans will see thousands of people pour into high-rise flats around train stations from Glenfield through to Macarthur.

This will impact on the situation at Edmondson Park by making it even worse.

“The government needs to wake up and act now to fix this problem,’’ Mr Chanthivong said.

“We have a commuter carparking crisis on our doorstep and the Berejiklian Liberal Government continues to ignore commuters’ needs.

“The reality is that the Liberal Government puts development before people – collecting millions of dollars in stamp duty and yet not delivering the necessary infrastructure.

“It’s a disgrace.

“I just want a fair go for commuters and my community,” Mr Chanthivong said.
