The late Lillian Bratkovic was an Edmondson Park pioneer.

Ms Bratkovic, who passed away 10 years ago in 2011, was one of the earliest landowners in the suburb named after the famous local Victoria Cross recipient John Edmondson.

She played a major role in helping to have the mostly rural area released for residential development as part of the South West Release Area.

Edmondson Park, which overlaps Campbelltown and Liverpool local government areas, is now one of the largest residential developments in the region.

It has its own railway station and a growing central business district.

Now work has started on a new park on the corner of Croatia Avenue and Dunkirk Road, Edmondson Park.

It will be named Lillian Bratkovic Park in honour of the Edmondson Park pioneer.

The recreational space at Lillian Bratkovic Park will feature a children’s playground, climbing net with slide, inclusive carousel, swings and natural play area, picnic shelters and park furniture, outdoor fitness equipment, accessible pathways and tree planting and landscaped gardens.

According to Liverpool Council, recent statistics indicate more than 67 per cent of couples in Edmondson Park have children, so this is a much-needed recreational space in the growing area.

“Lillian Bratkovic Park will be a place where neighbouring families can conveniently walk to and take their children to play, keep fit, have a picnic or just to get outdoors,” says Liverpool mayor Wendy Waller.

Works are anticipated to be completed by October of this year.
