Easter may be a time to enjoy chocolate, plan holidays, or for Easter services, but for a growing number of Australians, the cost-of-living crisis coupled with rising levels of stress means turning to support services for help.
BaptistCare’s HopeStreet Campbelltown – located in the town’s main street, Queen Street – reported a significant increase in locals reaching out to access counselling and support services this Easter.
Hub Leader Belinda Harris said that in recent weeks, HopeStreet has observed more people experiencing higher levels of anxiety and uncertainty, worsened by rising cost-of-living pressures and fuel prices.
“In March, we have seen a significant increase in the number of people who are stressed and seeking counselling, mental health services, and case work support,’’ Ms Harris said.
“We’ve also experienced an increase in people requiring practical support, like transport assistance,” she said.
“We are seeing a lot of families who might already be struggling but don’t know what to do or how to navigate services.”
Ms Harris said holidays like the Easter period can be a difficult time for some people.
“Easter time can exacerbate challenges like financial stress, food and housing insecurity. As we head into the winter months, we also see a spike in people reaching out for help and support,” she said.
