East Campbelltown Eagles have moved into the top four after disposing of the Belrose Eagles 42-12 yesterday.
Campbelltown were too strong for Belrose in the Sydney Shield round 13 clash at Waminda Oval.
It was a timely win for the home side, who will have a bye this coming weekend.
Coming off a big defeat the week before, coach Richard Barnes would have been unhappy with his team’s start to the game.
The visitors shocked the Eagles when they raced in two early tries to fly to a 12-0 lead.
But as the East Campbelltown Eagles always do they started to claw back with a try to Grant Lahey to get on the board at 12-6.
It wasn’t long before another try to the home side through Craig Moustakas reduced the deficit even further to 12-10.
The Campbelltown boys followed that up with another two tries when Ben Baker ran 70 meters to score and Adam Soultan also crossed scored just before half time.
The scoreboard showed that the home side were leading 22-12 when the players trundled off the field for the break.
The second half was a great display from the Campbelltown boys as they ran in tries by Amanono Tovio and Fred Tevaga, Craig Moustakas and Ben Baker – the last two bagging their doubles.
But even more importantly, they kept the opposition scoreless in the second 40 minutes.
Best for the Eagles where Mason Talolua, Fred Tevaga, Grant Lahey and Sean Connor. The players player award went to Brett Lahey and man of the match honours to John Da Silva
Coach Richard Barnes had this to say after the match: “I was very pleased with the effort today.
“Belrose scored a couple of early tries that put us on the back foot, but our completions got us back in the game.
“Credit to our online defence, they couldn’t crack us in the second half which was very pleasing,’’ Barnes said.
