After the gifts have been opened: This time of the year there is too much recyclable material for the recycling bin.

It’s the first day of a new year but there’s more than a hangover to worry about as the festive season comes to an end.

At this time of the year we find ourselves with more recyclables then there is room for in our recycling bins.

But there’s no need to worry, because we can all get rid of any excess recyclable material such as gift wrapping at council recyclables drop off day at both Camden and Campbelltown this Saturday, January 6.

Campbelltown City Council’s free recyclables drop off day will be at Leumeah station car park.

Any materials that would normally be collected in yellow lid recycling bins, such as paper, cardboard, aluminium cans and glass and plastic bottles, will be accepted.

Residents can also dispose of polystyrene on the day, which can’t go in your recycling bin, but is a common waste during the festive season.

The polystyrene is also sent to a specialised company for recycling.

To ensure the material is recycled, please remove all labels and sticky tape from the polystyrene before taking down to Leumeah station carpark.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, is calling on residents to take advantage of the free recyclables drop off day to empty their recycling bins bursting at the seams after the Christmas festivities.

“The service has proven popular with residents because it’s free and easy to access, but it is also important in diverting waste from landfill, especially at this time of year when we all have lots of extra recyclable waste,” he said.

Recyclables can be dropped off at Leumeah Station car park, Plough Inn Road (Woodbine side), Leumeah, between 8am and 3pm this Saturday.

Only domestic quantities of recyclables and polystyrene will be accepted.

Residents are requested to separate recyclable products prior to arrival, to help reduce queue times. Please note household garbage and garden organics will not be accepted and residents are requested not to bring recycling bins to the event.

♦ Camden residents will also have the chance to get rid of extra recycling waste this Saturday, January 6.

The free recycling drop off day will be held at council’s work depot located at 5 Millwood Avenue, Narellan from 9am to 3.30pm.

“It also has a positive environmental aspect as the day helps divert waste from landfill,” she said.

Materials that would normally be collected in yellow-lid bins, such as paper, cardboard, cards, wrapping paper, plastic bottles and containers, cans and glass bottles will be accepted at the Camden drop off day.

Items that will not be accepted include general waste, polystyrene, tinsel, batteries, chemicals, electronic waste and plastic wrapping.
