It’s been a year to forget, but at least 2020 looks like ending in a more positive way.

Community transmission of the virus has almost disappeared in the past month and restrictions are starting to get the flick.

Here in Macarthur it’s no different, and one proposed event that never looked like becoming a reality by year’s end is going to happen after all.

Yes, the big screen is coming to the outdoors in Campbelltown at a free drive-in-cinema event this month.

Campbelltown Council has been trying to get the drive-in idea by Councillor Rey Manoto up and running for almost all of 2020.

Cr Manoto wanted the drive-in as a safe way to cheer us up during the worst of the pandemic.

There were a few obstacles to overcome but now it will happen before the year is out.

The Leumeah commuter car park will host the event over three nights on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, December 18, 19 and 20.

The first two nights will feature a family and adult session while Sunday will take on a multicultural vibe with a Bangla and Hindi movie on offer.

“With so many events unable to go ahead this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic we wanted to round off 2020 with a fun weekend that everyone can enjoy,” says Campbelltown mayor George Brticevic.

“With a mix of classic family films, adult flicks and multicultural films, it’s sure to be a great weekend of movies,” he said.

The event will feature local food trucks so cinema goers can purchase meals, ice creams, popcorn and drinks.

The movie weekend includes:

Friday 18 December family session: 7.45pm – Elliot: The Littlest Reindeer (G) (pictured above); adult session: 9.30pm – Birds of Prey – And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (MA)

Saturday 19 December family session: 7.45pm – ELF (PG); adult session: 9.30pm – Cold Pursuit. (MA)

Sunday 20 December adult session, Bengali language with English subtitles: 7.30pm – Dhaka Attack (PG); adult session, Hindi language movie with English subtitle: 9.30pm – 3 Idiots at 9.30pm (M)
