Ghosts fast bowler Lauren Cheatle has always dreamt of playing in the green and gold.
At the tender age of 17 and still at high school, Cheatle will achieve her dream later this month.
A fast bowler, Cheatle has been selected to playing for the Southern Stars – as the national women’s cricket team are known – who will play India in three T20 matches.
Lauren currently sits third on the wicket-taking table in the Women’s Big Bash League with 17 scalps at 15.76, playing for Sydney Thunder.
The Ghosts have congratulated Cheatle on her achievement.
“The club is very proud of the support and development programs they provide for their female cricketers and especially excited when one of our young cricketers realise their dreams,’’ a Ghosts spokesman said.
Lauren, who is already considered to be among the fastest bowlers in the country, was introduced to senior cricket through intense development programs with CricketNSW.
She finished last season by playing five matches for her state in the women’s national competition.
She impressed keen judges with seven wickets from five matches for the Lend Lease Breakers in the Women’s National Cricket League late last year.
When being interviewed recently, Southern Stars coach Matthew Mott said: “Cheatle has been exceptional with the ball all season.”
Former long term Ghosts player Naomi Stalenberg has also achieved her dream by being chosen for the same T20 Southern Stars side.
