In 2008, Luddenham resident Ann Willmington received devastating news: she had a brain tumour and was told she had just 18 months to live.
Determined to fight, Ann turned to world‑renowned neurosurgeon Dr Charlie Teo and an extraordinary 18 years later, Ann is a true survivor.
After multiple operations with Dr Teo, along with radiotherapy and chemotherapy, Ann was given a second chance at life.
Her journey inspired a mission: to help find a cure for brain cancer.
Over the past 15 years, Ann has dedicated herself to raising funds for brain cancer research, creating Music for Life, a community‑driven initiative that has already raised over $500,000.
This year marks the return of the Music for Life Spring Ball, the first since Covid, and the community is invited to come together for a powerful night of entertainment, hope and fundraising.
The Music for Life Spring Ball will be held on Saturday, September 12 at Workers Hubertus Club, Luddenham
The evening will feature live entertainment, including the return of The King in Concert with David Cazalet and his band.
Guests will also hear directly from Dr Charlie Teo AM, who will share insights into the groundbreaking research that is changing outcomes for patients with brain cancer.
The event will be hosted by Chris Smith of the 2SM Super Radio Network.
Dr Teo has sent this message ahead of the 2026 Music for Life Spring Ball:
“It is Ann’s courage, strength and determination that has given her another 18 years of life when faced with the devastating diagnosis of a brain tumour and given 18 months to live,’’ says Dr Teo.
“Ann has endured multiple surgeries with me, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Not only does she have an immeasurable strength to fight the tumour, she also joined me in beating the drum by dedicating her life to the cause.
“Ann came up with the concept of Music for Life, an incredible fundraising ball that has raised over half a million dollars for brain cancer research!
“I absolutely love attending the Music for Life Spring Ball. It’s always a wonderful and fun evening, and it’s particularly special this year to see the Ball return after such a long break since Covid.
“I encourage everyone to join me in Western Sydney, show your support and join us for what’s going to be a night of hope, community and life‑changing support for brain cancer research,’’ Dr Teo said.
The formal event includes a three‑course meal, auctions, and fundraising activities, all supporting the Charlie Teo Foundation’s mission to unlock the brain tumour maze and bring hope to families affected by this devastating disease.
