An investigation is under way after the body of an elderly man was found after a fire in a granny flat at Glenfield yesterday afternoon.
While yet to be formally identified, police believe the deceased is the resident of the flat, an 89-year-old man.
Police established a crime scene and an investigation has commenced into the circumstances surrounding the blaze.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Emergency services were called to a property on Belmont Road, Glenfield, following reports of a fire just after 4pm yesterday.
Fire and Rescue NSW received more than 25 Triple 0 calls to the blaze.
Crews from Horningsea Park, St Andrews, Ingleburn, Liverpool, Busby, Bonnyrigg Heights and Revesby responded to the call.
At one stage there were more than 30 fire fighters battling the blaze.
Once Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze, a search located the body of a man in the granny flat.
