Covid-19 has made donating Christmas gifts a little harder

The Covid-19 virus has impacted on just about every part of life, and it looks like even Christmas won’t avoid its tentacles.

It means, for example, that for health and safety purposes, all presents donated to Greg Warren’s Christmas toy drive must be new and preferably in their original package.

The state member for Campbelltown, who has been running a Christmas appeal since being elected in 2015, says this year’s drive would be arguably the most important.

“For many people, 2020 has been a year that they would rather forget,” he said after launching this year’s appeal.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has devastated all corners of the globe and we certainly haven’t been immune to it here in Campbelltown.

“Many people have lost their jobs while others have seen a significant reduction in their working hours, which has an impact on the ability to put food on the table for their families.

Christmas will be a little harder this year so we’ll have to try a little harder, says MP Greg Warren.

“It may also have an impact on the ability to put presents under the tree on Christmas Day.

“Of course small business owners have also been affected with most suffering a downturn and others forced to shut up shop.

“Given those circumstances, Christmas is shaping to be a tough time for many people this year,” Mr Warren said.

All presents will be donated to WILMA Women’s Health Centre, who will in turn distribute the items to children in the community.

Macarthur Square has again come on board and will donate an entire trolley full of presents to the cause.

To donate an item, please call Mr Warren’s office on 4625 3344 and make an appointment to drop off an item.

“Thank you in advance to everyone that donates to this year’s toy drive,” Mr Warren said.

“A small gesture truly will make a huge difference to a local child and their family this Christmas.”
