Police are appealing for information following reports a couple were threatened by a man armed with a weapon in south west Sydney this morning. Just before 1.40am a 30-year-old man and 23-year-old woman were sitting in a car parked on Aberdeen Street, Bossley Park. Police have been told a white utility with p-plates and white roll bars pulled up next to their vehicle.
The driver of the ute allegedly produced a weapon believed to be a firearm, and threatened the couple. The pair drove from the scene and contacted police. Officers attached to the Fairfield Local Area Command attended and commenced investigations.
♦ In a separate incident, police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted robbery in Miller yesterday. Just after 1am officers from Green Valley Local Area Command responded to reports that a man had been assaulted on Cartwright Avenue. On arrival police located a man, aged in his 30s, who told them he had been approached by another man that threatened him and demanded his wallet.
He refused to hand it over and the other man punched him, and then kicked him to the head after he fell to the ground. The victim contacted police when the assailant left the scene. Officers spoke to the injured man, who was then treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics for minor injuries.
Police patrolled the area nearby and located another man. He was arrested and taken to Green Valley Police Station. Investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that may assist with their inquiries to contact Crime Stoppers.
♦ In another incident, police are appealing for information after construction equipment was stolen from a motor vehicle in St Helens Park. Sometime between January 4 and 8 someone broke into a Toyota Hilux parked on Cusack Close. A number of items, including a gauge used for measuring density and moisture in soils which contains potentially hazardous materials, were stolen from a locked tool box in the tray of the Hilux.
Officers from Campbelltown Local Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward but are warning members of the public who might locate the item not to touch it in case the shielding has been broken or tampered with.
While the potential for the materials in the box to cause any significant harm is extremely small, if the case is broken then caution needs to be used when handling. The gauge is described as being locked in a hard green case approximately 80cm by 60cm in size, labelled InstroTek, and with radioactive warning labels.
For more information about the gauge please contact the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) via the EPA Environment Line on 131 555.
