Sisters Lucy and Ana Cornett were amongst Camden’s best through the midfield when the Cats women’s side celebrated their first victory of the 2019 season.
The narrow 2-point win over the Penrith Rams at Greygums Oval, Penrith last weekend was as close as they come, but a win’s a win.
The Cats leaped out of the blocks with a 3-goal first quarter to take a 9-point lead into quarter time. Camden added another goal in the second quarter off the back of some great individual play by Elisha Williams and Kate Wallace.
When the Camden defence stepped up to keep Penrith goalless in the second quarter the Cats extended their lead to 14-points at the main break.
The scoring dried up for the Cats in the second half as the Rams mounted a strong comeback.
Penrith had the run of play for the majority of the second half, with the Ram’s inaccuracy in front of goal proving costly.
Penrith ended the game with double the amount of scoring shots as Camden but they were unable to find the middle two sticks, finishing the game with 3 goals, 11 behinds.
After a tense final quarter, Camden players were ecstatic as the final siren sounded with the scoreboard showing a 2-point victory for them.
Jayde Rowley was the only multiple goal scorer for the Cats with two goals to her credit.
Camden will now look to make it back-to-back wins when they travel to Blacktown International Sports Park this coming Saturday to play reigning premiers Blacktown Magic from 11:20am.
Camden goal kickers: J. Rowley 2, A. Cornett, E. Williams, J. Bates.
