Greg Warren has a simple message for people who use mobile phones while driving.
Just don’t do it, says the Campbelltown MP.
He was speaking this morning from Seta’s Café in Dumaresq Street, Campbelltown, which is fundraising for one of the two police officers injured last Friday night.
Senior Constables Jonathon Wright and Matthew Foley were setting up the RBT along Campbelltown Road between Woodbine and Leumeah when a car ploughed into them.
The 22 year old driver from Ruse has been charged.
It is alleged that he was using his mobile phone.
“When people are injured in road accidents it changes their lives and the lives of their families,’’ Mr Warren said.
“We must all ensure that when we get behind the wheel of a vehicle we are not distracted in any way until we safely reach our destination.
“This tragedy is also a reminder of the dangerous working environment of our police officers,’’ he said.
The local MP praised Seta and others who have launched fundraising initiatives for the two officers.
All this week Seta’s Café will donate $1 from each cup of coffee sold to a gofundme appeal – https://www.gofundme.com/support-jono-and-lisa
It is one of several Macarthur community initiatives to help the two injured officers and their families.
“It’s just wonderful stuff,’’ says Greg Warren.

“In times of need this community always rallies to help out,’’ he said.
Const Wright had his foot amputated, as a result of Friday night’s incident.
Meanwhile the officers investigating the incident have made an appeal for information.
They’d like anyone who witnessed or has vision of the incident, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
