Bradbury resident Dawn Kershaw is such a community minded gem she even cuts the grass for her elderly neighbours.
A few years ago Ms Kershaw helped establish a craft group out of AB Central in Airds, where members sew clothing and comfort bears to be sent overseas for disaster relief.
But her community involvement did not end with just setting up Airds Bradbury Community Change Makers.
Ms Kershaw has run raffles and other fundraising initiatives for Community Change Makers, including sourcing donations from generous local organisations such as the Airds Bradbury men’s shed.
She has had extensive involvement in the community beyond the craft group for many years, including with fruit and vegetable co-operative Bush Care and the annual Fisher’s Ghost festival parade.
Choosing Dawn Kershaw as the Campbelltown electorate’s Woman of the Year for 2017 would have been a very easy decision for MP Greg Warren.
Mr Warren visited a meeting of the craft group to present Dawn with the award, and to congratulate her on her extensive record of community involvement.
[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“There are not many better parts of my job than recognising the great work women do in so many different capacities in our community, and it’s great to be able to do just that by surprising Dawn with this award,’’ he said.[/social_quote]
“Dawn has done so much for her local community through her craft group and the various other things she has been involved in, and everyone that knows her can’t rate her highly enough.
“Congratulations to Dawn and to all of the great women in our region who work every day to make Campbelltown a better place.”
