Residents of Cobbitty are invited to help protect and manage remnant vegetation on their property.
Landholders can now submit an expression of interest for financial assistance and landscape management advice as part of a joint partnership between Camden Council, Eco Logical Australia and the Greater Sydney Local Land Services.
“It is critical to the long term health and wellbeing of the community that we maintain the conservation of the natural environment as a priority, particularly when the area is experiencing such large scale urban growth,” says Camden mayor Lara Symkowiak.
“This invitation to local landholders is part of a council initiative to develop a Cobbitty Hills biodiversity corridor masterplan which aims to protect, restore and manage biodiversity across neighbouring land,” Cr Symkowiak said.
“This is an exciting opportunity for residents to become involved in the conservation of native plants and animals – literally, in their own backyard.’’
The corridor extends from the Nepean River to Bringelly and contains the critically endangered, Cumberland Plain woodland and the endangered plant white-flowered wax plant.
Cobbitty landholders will be able to learn about bio-banking and other opportunities for financial assistance for landscape management through community workshops, as well as have an ecologist visit their site to identify the eco-values of the land and appropriate management techniques.
The Cobbitty hills precinct has been identified as a high priority biodiversity corridor within the local biodiversity strategy for the Camden local government area.
Expressions of interest from landholders are open until close of business on Friday, April 21.
