For the first 30 minutes against Perth Glory at Campbelltown Stadium last night, Macarthur FC looked an even bet to continue their winnings ways.
But eventually fatigue kicked in and a polished Perth side took home all three points after their 2-0 win over the Bulls.
This was the club’s third A-League loss, leaving them in ninth spot on the ladder after six rounds.
The Bulls, who were backing up just three days after a 2-1 victory in the ACL 2 over Tai Po FC on Thursday night at Campbelltown Stadium, held on grimly to keep the Perth side to 0-0 at half time.
Bulls squandered a couple of good goal scoring chances in the first 45 minutes, but Glory were even more guilty, and with better execution could have been leading by two or even three goals.
It took a rapid fire counter attack from the visitors to score their first goal 20 minutes into the second half.
It became 2-0 when Perth scored a second three minutes from regulation time, with four minutes added on.
The Bulls found a bit of a second wind in that little period and showed some energy, but it came to nought.
Head coach Mile Sterjovski called it a “lacklustre’’ performance, and nobody could argue with that description.
“I thought we were very poor in that first half,’’ he said.
“We didn’t show any heart, any character.’’
Sterjovski made it plain that he wasn’t blaming the short turnaround from Thursday night’s match
“I think we need to look at ourselves, it comes down to determination and we cannot allow a performance like that,’’ he said.
The Bulls return to Campbelltown Stadium this Friday night when they will host Melbourne Victory in round seven of the A-League.
Kick off is scheduled for 7.35pm.
