Roll up to clean up a patch of your own area: Clean Up Australia is on March 6.

It’s a call to arms to help clean up in Campbelltown.

Residents are being called on to care for local waterways and bushland by being a part of Clean Up Australia Day at Fisher’s Ghost Reserve in Bradbury, on Sunday, March 6.

They will be part of hundreds of thousands of volunteers across the country as part of Australia’s largest community based environmental event.

It has a simple but important aim: to clean up streets, parks and bushland in an effort to improve the local environment and amenity.

The event at Fisher’s Ghost Reserve aims to help protect and preserve our natural assets by clearing the creek and bushland of rubbish.

Participants will also have the opportunity to learn more about Campbelltown Council’s Bushcare program and how they can be a part of it.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Hawker, said Clean Up Australia Day helped to promote environmental awareness, and encouraged local residents to support the initiative to help make a difference to their local environment.

“Local Clean Up Australia Day events are an opportunity for residents to get involved in the preservation of our natural areas and learn more about council’s environmental initiatives.

“Council’s Bushcare volunteer groups meet regularly to carry out conservation activities, including planting local native species and rehabilitating the bushland.

“National initiatives like this one are a great opportunity for residents to learn how they too can make a difference,” Cr Hawker said.

Participants are asked to wear long pants and enclosed shoes, and bring along a hat and drinking water.

Gloves and sunscreen will be provided.

The event will be held from 9am to midday, with volunteers meeting at the reserve, opposite Bradbury Public School.
