It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Macarthur and Camden is first cab off the rank with festive season events.
The first is council’s Christmas lights competition, which is now open to residents and business owners to enter categories such as best lit house, novelty display, street and commercial/non-residential.
Entries to the competition close 5pm next Monday, November 28 and winners will be announced on council’s Facebook on December 19 [last year’s winning family home entry is pictured above in the Brett Atkins image].
The inaugural Camden Christmas Festival will be held 4-9pm this Saturday, November 26 along Argyle Street in Camden.
This event will include the annual lighting of the community Christmas tree, live music, market stalls, amusements and rides and a very special visit from Santa himself.
Festivities will continue with the Oran Park Christmas concert on December 1.
The lighting of the Oran Park Christmas tree as well as festive season entertainment, market stalls and another visit from Saint Nick will all be part of that event.
Meanwhile the Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, is calling on the community to get into the festive spirit and fill Camden with lots of colour and cheer.
“Christmas is such a beautiful time of year,” Cr Fedeli said.
“I know I can feel it in myself – it’s when we’re all so happy and feeling extra generous and excited.
“The long year has come to an end, we’re able to reflect on everything we’ve accomplished, and we get to do that by spending time with our friends and family.
“Our Christmas lights competition is always highly competitive, with people coming from right across Sydney to see the beautiful displays in the Camden area.
“Together with the Camden Christmas festival and Oran Park Christmas concert, the Christmas Lights competition is the perfect time to let Saint Nick into your hearts yet again.
“I look forward to seeing all the entries come through and seeing you all down at these two fabulous events.”
