Have fun at Macquarie Fields Skate Park during the 2015 Youth Week.

Get active, be creative or learn new skills during National Youth Week during April 10 to 19, which offers a host of seriously cool stuff to check out.

And this year’s Youth Week theme “It starts with us’’ is aimed at encouraging young people to get involved in the range of events and activities taking place in their local area.

Campbelltown City Council has prepared a Youth Week program that is bursting with ideas on ways young people can get involved and celebrate.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Lake, said Youth Week was a great opportunity to acknowledge our city’s young people.

“Almost one quarter of our city’s population is young people, and Youth Week is a chance to have fun, learn something new and join in a fantastic variety of events and activities,” Cr Lake said.

“Youth Week is also an opportunity to showcase young people’s talents, celebrate their contributions and raise important issues relevant to young people in the community.”

Highlights of Youth Week 2015 include free skate, scooter and BMX sessions hosted by Totem Skateboarding at Campbelltown and Macquarie Fields Skate Parks, featuring giveaways, best-trick awards and a skateboard building workshop.

Campbelltown Arts Centre will once again host its successful boutique chip music festival – Pixel Sounds, as well as a NIDA drama workshop, a Pacific forum, resin jewellery workshop and an introduction to installation art based on its latest exhibition, Colour Restraint.

There’s also the chance to discover Manga art’s unique characters at HJ Daley Library or learn the secrets of henna tattooing at Glenquarie Library.

If moving and grooving is more your thing, choose from Oztag, hip hop dance, an NRL Touch Football clinic or join youth boot camp.

Support live music at a free all ages gig to be held at Eagle Vale High School, featuring local artists and nationally renowned headline acts.

Youth Week celebrations will also include a YOUTHRIVE Regional Youth Leadership Forum, to be hosted by Campbelltown, Camden and Wollondilly councils, with an emphasis on leadership skills and future goals.
