The Macarthur Cancer Therapy Centre is the only one in NSW with a personalised light and music system in two radiation rooms to assist patients suffering extreme anxiety during treatment.

The relaxation tool, which cost around $80,000, assists patients to remain calm and still during treatment.

“Patient reviews are outstanding,’’ says Warren Morrison, the chair of home grown charity Fight Against Cancer Macarthur Inc, pictured above from last year’s official launch.

In the chairperson’s report prepared ahead of the launch of another fundraising year on June 12, Mr Morrison has revealed that in 2025 the Fight Against Cancer Macarthur Inc raised $383,446.

This brings the total raised in just over two decades to $6.15 million.

This charity points out that every cent raised in Macarthur stays in Macarthur. The result is that the local cancer therapy centre is one of the best in the state, if not the country.

In the past year, funds from the charity have supported medical equipment, services and staffing to the value of$314,814, says Mr Morrison.

He goes on to list a few examples, including the personalised light and music system mentioned above, that Fight Against Cancer Macarthur Inc funded:

  • A high-resolution ultrasound machine for guiding anaesthetic blocks in cancer patients at Campbelltown Hospital operating theatres. This will assist in supporting safe opioid-sparing surgery, increase same-day discharge and enhance recoveries – cost around $60,000;
  • A Bariatric bed with Pilot Drive at Camden Palliative Care Unit which will allow for the comfort of obese patients while supporting pressure area management. It also doubles as a ‘cuddle bed’ where parents and children can cuddle with their loved one in their final days – around $40,000;
  • An additional chemotherapy cart, designed by Denise Burns, the Nursing Unit Manager, which allows for the digital monitoring of patients and the safer delivery of chemotherapy for patients and staff – $11,000;
  • Fortnightly one-hour visits by Pets for Therapy to help with patient morale while they wait for their treatment – $3,000;
  • Two electronic hoists with pivotal slings for inclusion in the equipment loan poolrun through Camden Hospital for patients receiving end-of-life care in their homes. This electronic equipment is safer for caregivers and offers enhanced comfort and dignity for patients – $19,000.

“We continue to hold our signature event in October and continue to make our other seven events more successful every year,’’ Mr Morrisons said.
