Barely 15 months after becoming an MP, Charishma Kaliyanda has been promoted to parliamentary secretary by NSW premier Chris Minns.

The Member for Liverpool has been appointed parliamentary secretary for emergency services, customer service and digital government, and youth justice.

The minister for all three areas of responsibility is Jihad Dib.

“Parliamentary secretaries perform an important role in supporting ministers and driving action to deliver on government priorities in parliament,’’ said Mr Minns in announcing Ms Kaliyanda’s promotion yesterday.

“As the Member for Liverpool and across more than a decade of involvement in local government, community groups, and the health sector, Charishma Kaliyanda has been a strong local advocate for the diverse communities of South West Sydney,’’ he said.

“Since joining parliament in 2023, she has made key contributions to a range of parliamentary committees and is well placed to continue this invaluable work as parliamentary secretary.’’

These new responsibilities follow Ms Kaliyanda’s appointment to the Committee on Children and Young People earlier this month.

Since being elected in 2023, Charishma Kaliyanda has made strides in delivering for the people of Liverpool, securing a new fire station for Busby, upgrades to Cecil Hills High School, a new co-educational high school in the Liverpool CBD, and five new public preschools across the electorate, to open by 2027.

Ms Kaliyanda will continue this vital work locally while undertaking her new role as parliamentary secretary.

“It is an honour and a privilege to have been appointed parliamentary secretary,’’ she said.

“I am looking forward to working with and supporting my good friend Minister Jihad Dib across these important portfolios.

“Liverpool has benefited from the Minns Labor Government’s fresh approach to delivering essential services, like the new Busby Fire Station. I’m excited to work alongside my colleagues to deliver that approach across our state,” Ms Kaliyanda said.
