Police have now charged a second person over an alleged cattle fraud valued at $44,000 in the Camden area.

The 23-year-old man was issued with a court attendance notice earlier this week after being charged with five counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception.

The Glenmore Park man will appear in Picton Local Court on January 21 next year.

A 26-year-old woman was arrested at Goulburn Police Station late in September and was issued a court attendance notice for five counts of dishonestly obtaining property by deception.

The Marulan woman is due to appear at Picton Local Court on November 23.

Detectives from the Camden Police Area Command and Rural Crime Prevention Team commenced an investigation following reports of cattle fraud in outer South Western Sydney earlier this year.

Police were told the owners of a rural cattle property in Greendale transferred more than $44,000 for the purchase of 32 cattle between May and June this year, following recommendations by a former employee.

Police identified that the funds were transferred into a woman’s bank account purporting to be a business, and fraudulent invoices were sent in return.

The NSW Police Force has launched its summer safety campaign. Summer Safe is a state wide high-visibility strategy which will focus policing resources on crime prevention, alcohol-related crime, anti-social behaviour and road safety.

General Duties officers from Police Area Commands and Police Districts will be supported by specialist police to prevent, disrupt and respond to crime across NSW.

In addition, there will be an increased presence of Traffic and Highway Patrol Command on the roads and Marine Area Command on all waterways.

Minister for police and emergency services David Elliott said the easing of pandemic restrictions was not a free pass to break the law.
