Five years ago, round about the time his masters brought in a stray kitty, Chester the cat walked out and wasn’t seen again – until last week.
The 12-year-old feline was found an amazing 40 kilometres away from his home in Narwee.
After Chester was found at Oran Park he was handed over to Camden Council rangers.
The cat’s owner, Kelly Corbett, pictured with Chester above, said she was shocked to have her pet back after fearing the worst.
“About five years ago my husband rescued a kitten from his work which joined Chester at home and after that Chester just went missing,” Ms Corbett said.
“We thought he might not have liked the kitten and he might have even gotten run over. I figured if somebody found him that they would have taken him to a vet to have his chip scanned.
“I don’t know if he’s been on the street. It is funny because we were looking at adopting another cat and Camden Council’s rangers contacted me to tell me they had found Chester, so I am stoked.
“I think it is important to let pet owners know that keeping your pet’s details up to date is what brings your pet home if something like this ever happens.”
Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said Chester’s story is a reminder to residents to continue being responsible pet owners.
“All cats and dogs are required to be registered and microchipped across Australia and you can do that either with council or your local vet,” Cr Fedeli said.
“If you ever move homes, it is also important to update your pet’s details.
“Pets are important members of the family and I am glad to hear Ms Corbett has been reunited with Chester. I am sure he has plenty to share with his family.”
