Cash boost: Campbelltown arts centre.

Campbelltown Arts Centre will receive a $1.35 million funding boost from the NSW Government, over three years, to deliver a multidisciplinary approach across its artistic and cultural programs.

The state government is delivering on a commitment to grow the arts and cultural sector in Western Sydney, with a 40 per cent increase in program funding, totalling $3.4 million, for a variety of artistic and cultural projects from 2016.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Hawker, welcomed the announcement and said that the funding would enable Campbelltown Arts Centre to provide programs targeted to the local community, with a focus on indigenous and Pacific communities, people with disability and young people.

“Campbelltown Arts Centre is South West Sydney’s major cultural venue and supports the region’s innovative and dynamic arts sector,” Cr Hawker said.

“Macarthur is growing at an unprecedented rate, and just as the government needs to build roads and hospitals, it must also build cultural infrastructure, and invest in creative projects that reflect and inspire the local community.

“Council is committed to growing arts and culture in the region and this funding will go a long way towards doing exactly that,” Cr Hawker said.

“This latest funding announcement confirms the NSW Government’s commitment to the Macarthur region, however, we still hope for a further announcement of additional capital investment from the state government to support the growth of Campbelltown Arts Centre into the future,” Cr Hawker added.

The funding will be used to increase the scale and scope of new programs across visual arts, music, performance, dance, live art and emerging art forms, expand audience and school engagement programs and facilitate program accessibility for people with disability.
